Trading is a gameplay feature added to Royale High on March 23, 2020. It is only available to players level 75 or higher in the Intergalactic Trading Hub.

Functionality

Trading is only available to use in the Intergalactic Trading Hub, which can only be accessed by players level 75 or higher. Trading is separately also locked to levels 75 or higher.[1]

Players that live in South Korea or The Netherlands cannot trade or access the Intergalactic Trading Hub due to laws that prohibit or heavily restrict trading in video games.

Items

The limit of items able to be traded are of items for character customization that must be obtained/purchased by the player. However, not all of these items are able to be traded.

Lists of items that can be traded can be viewed at List of item values (all items) or Category:Items that can be traded (accessories, skirts, and shoes only).

Each instance of an item in the inventory is an individual item that can be traded. When wearing an item that the player owns multiple copies of, the item will not disappear unless all copies are traded away. Outfits that a player is currently wearing or has saved checks for the item in general and not the exact item copy owned in the market, meaning re-obtaining the item by any means will make it appear on those outfits again if it is traded away.

Offer system

When joining the Intergalactic Trading Hub and when in trade, general rules and reminders for trading are given.

To trade, the player can click on someone, which opens the player's journal/ profile, and choose to send a trade. After they send a trade, the other person has 30 seconds to accept, otherwise, the request will expire. Once the person accepts, a GUI appears, and the player sees their inventory, a chatbox, their offer, the other party's offer, an area where the players can offer diamonds, a box where changes to the trade are shown, and a "cancel trade" button. There is a notification after the other player takes away anything, saying they have modified the trade, and any changes made to the trade will be shown in a box to the right of the chatbox. You can only trade up to 40 items at a time. There is also a 10 second cooldown for changing diamond amount or removing an item from the offer.

There will also be a timer or a cooldown when the trade is modified, and the trade cannot be accepted until the timer runs out. After both players are done offering, there is an accept button that both players must press, and a confirmation warning, which also tells players to never "trust trade" or let people borrow items because of scamming risk. A third screen is presented, which has a larger box so the player can see the entire offer without scrolling. There is a 30 second timer on the "accept" button. If the other player leaves during a trade, a red notification will pop up, saying, "Trade Cancelled!", and if both sides accept, a green notification will pop up, saying "Trade Success!".

Official trading policies

This concerns rules and guidelines for trading within Royale High as presented by the Royale High game and its developers as sourced from the OFFICIAL "Intergalactic Trading Hub Terms & Conditions" and "Royale High Official Rules" in-game.

  • The following practices are NOT allowed by Royale High developers;
    • Scamming
      • Attempting to scam may have a player's account banned from Royale High.
    • Exploiting ("hacking") or abusing glitches to gain items or currency
      • Being involved in exploiting will result in bans from the game, from trading, or have the player's inventory wiped.
    • Cross-trading (to trade Royale High items for items outside of Royale High, including Robux or items in other Roblox games)
      • This is also against Roblox rules.
    • Partial trading (to only do part of a trade and do the rest at a later time)
    • Trust trading (trading to trust someone to do something else after the trade is completed)
    • Real-money trading (aka real money transaction, real currency transaction, RMT/RCT) selling in-game items on websites outside of Roblox)
  • Using alternate accounts to specifically gain and trade currency or items gained from gameplay that is timed (has cooldowns) such as the fountain or wheel (via playing these timed features more than intended) to another player is forbidden.
  • It is suggested to check trades multiple times before they are accepted, as all intended trades are final.
  • Ensure that you are completely okay with the trade before accepting.
  • Passwords to accounts should never be shared to other players, even if you believe they are trustworthy.
    • Two-Factor Authentication should be enabled on the Roblox account.
  • Scamming, exploiting, and bugs, including those related to trading, can be reported on the OFFICIAL Royale High report form at https://forms.gle/P6K3HFeg5yyCJMqq9 (requires a Google account) or emailing support@royalehigh.com
    • Sending any false information to the developers using these methods can result in major consequences.

Scams

Scamming is common in trades to attempt to gain items or diamonds without much loss.

For a list of common scam methods and how to avoid them, see the Scams within trading article.

History

Trading was first teased on April 4, 2019.[2] The level limit at the time was planned to be 25[citation needed] and the ability to block all trade requests was considered early on. [3] A main issue with implementing trading was regarding that the inventory system needed to be rewritten to allow for duplicate items.

Trading was temporarily enabled in Royale High on April 13, 2019[4] - this was for testing, and shortly reverted due to causing data loss problems and numerous other inventory data bugs. It was tested again with some bugfixes on April 14, 2019[5] and reverted again a few hours later for the same reasons. Over 500,000 requests to data servers occurred during this testing period.[6] A few references were given on April 22, 2019 to a third live test.[7]

When Wave 2 items from the town wheel were announced to be coming with the return of the wheel, callmehbob stated that Wave 1 items would be able to be traded. This feature did not persist at release.[8]

A tweet made on May 10, 2019 by callmehbob relayed that trading was still planned, but data issues were a focus first.[9] Trading was stated to be "pretty much complete" functionally on May 27, 2019, but not ready for release due to data issues.[10]

Mentions of various backend and data issues being fixed in preparation for trading were given by multiple developers across the rest of 2019.[11]

Test places

Trading test server

Trading test places were ran in short sessions in early April 2019, such as on April 5[12] and April 13[13]. These were separate instances of Roblox games that duplicated part of Royale High. However, these were early tests for both the functionality and the stress for the game's datastores, and the system was not planned for a while as data loss was likely.

The test places restricted players to a duplicate Divinia. Players were given random amounts of items, all permitted to be traded at the time, and 100,000 diamonds to spend in the shop or also use in trading.

A rare bug could occur where the temporary test data in the testing place could be merged with a player's data in the actual game, resulting in being given random items for free, possibly including rare items and duplicates.[14] Most notably, this resulted in some players obtaining the Blade of Light prior to its official implementation on the town wheel, as it was one of the items that could be randomly given to players when joining the test place. It was stated that this was an oversight with the data, and that any "gifted" items would be left to the player.[15]

Later development

The shop changes that occurred on November 6, 2019 were partially made for transparency in supplement to trading.[16]

Builds for what became the Intergalactic Trading Hub were teased as early as March 3, 2020.[17]

Trading functionality and the Intergalactic Trading Hub were released to the game on March 23, 2020.
