The Fountain Story Contests are contests held by the official Royale High Twitter account on Twitter (and formerly mainly by Kateka22 on Twitter) where themed stories by community members are entered for a chance to be chosen as one of the seasonal stories used at the fountain.
Winners of any writing contest receive the "Royale High Writer's Award!" badge. Winners of contests for stories for Winter 2020 and before, during that season, received the according halo for the story contest(s) they won. Starting with the Valentines 2021 season onward, winners receive the Writer's Charm Bracelet. Sometimes, runner-ups in the contests that do not get into the game are rewarded with diamonds as well.
Contests are not used to gather stories for all halos or events.
Format[]
Contests are currently handled by the official Royale High Twitter account, @RoyaleHighValks, through Google Forms. They are announced ahead of time weeks before a halo is planned to be implemented. First, after the announcement, those interested in submitting writing to the contest must reserve a spot to submit a story. Those that do not have a reservation cannot submit a story; those interested in writing should not begin writing unless they have a reservation.
If someone is successfully accepted to submit a story, they are given a time that they will submit their story through e-mail. Time slots for when the submission forms are opened are provided, and during that time that they reserved, entrants must send their story entries into the form.
After all submission timeslots for those that reserved have passed, the stories are reviewed and selected. Sometimes, the final story is edited by some of the developers if there is some revision needed; for example, during Halloween 2021, instances of Autumn Town written into stories were changed to Wickery Cliffs, since the latter was being used but had not yet been revealed.
Story entries may NOT be shared to the public in any form at any time where they are planned to or are currently in use, or they will be disqualified from ever being used in Royale High. Leaking the email sent to story reservers will also get the leaker disqualified from every future contest.
History[]
Prior to April 2021, story submissions were done through open timeslots, instead of reserving a slot. Submissions were closed after a certain amount of submissions were reached.
Prior to the contest for stories for the Winter 2020 halo, there were also no timeslots whatsoever. This was changed afterwards due to that it made it difficult
Story contests were originally handled by Kateka22 through her Twitter account and Google Forms up until Summer 2022. Kittzilla handled the Summer 2022 story contest. Afterwards, the official Royale High Twitter account handled contests.
Previous Contests[]
The first instance of a "story contest" was held by Kateka22 was for the Autumn 2019 season, but these were only an idea submission form that were used for Kateka to write stories, and were not rewarded. However, the Autumn 2019 season winners were awarded the Writer's Award along with the Winter 2019 winners at the same time.
Winter 2019[]
The first writing contest to allow users to submit full stories was for Winter 2019. A form for Winter stories was announced on November 20, 2019[1], and opened on November 23, 2019[2]. It closed on November 24, 2019[3].

This contest was the first contest to introduce story reservation slots, requiring users to reserve to submit their stories. There were 5 different time zone options for reservations and entries. A form for Halloween stories was teased on August 27, 2021[33]. The form required reservations, which opened at various times in three waves on September 6, 2021[34] and closed on September 7, 2021 with 318 entries[35]. Entries opened at a select time for the reserved users, finishing on September 11, 2021[36]. Decisions on the winners were finalized on October 2, 2021[37]. Winners were announced on October 3, 2021 and rewarded the Writer's Charm Bracelet at a later time.[38]

Winter 2021[]
A form for Winter stories was teased on October 12, 2021, stating that they would open in November.[39] Notices about RSVPs were posted on November 1, 2021, stating they were to open on November 3 in three waves.[40] Forms were opened around November 9 or 10 and then closed on November 11. [41] Some of the stories were added into Royale High on December 1, 2021, but some were kept for later updates. [42] A second batch of stories was added on December 24, 2021. An incident occurred where one of the writers shared some info about their story, but it was kept in for unknown reasons.[43] Winners were posted onto Twitter on December 3, 2021.[44]

A form for Spring/Valentines stories was teased on January 9, 2022.[46] Notices about RSVPs were posted on January 12, 2022[47] and the RSVPs opened on January 13, 2022, finishing by January 14, 2022 with information sent to successful applicants.[48]
